Surge Protectors
Does your RV need a surge protector? RV electrical needs range from lighting to large appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners, and TVs. Surge protectors (power protection devices) are designed to protect your RV’s electrical system and sophisticated electronics from the dangers of faulty electrical power delivery. Our technicians consider them critical equipment for your coach.
Don’t let the electrical equipment in your RV get fried. Because campground and other shore service vary, without the proper electrical protection, you risk power surge problems when you connect. This can also occur while you’re connected.
Power surges:
- Burn up electrical devices.
- Can damage some or all devices in the RV, including the water heater and furnace.
Surge protectors:
- Continually monitor your electricity.
- Stop power surges before they can do any damage.
- Monitor campground power pedestal wiring. Power fluctuates when connected to RV park power outlets.
- Can shut off power to your RV (some designs) in an over or under voltage situation.
Leale’s can help you figure out the best type of surge protector for your RV.
Don’t let this happen to you. Notice the burned and melted areas on the right lower section of this RV electrical equipment box. While this RV, with no surge protector, was plugged in at a campground, the owner turned on the air conditioner. The result: melted wires and a “fried” AC unit. The fix: Leale’s replaced damaged wiring and components and installed a new AC unit and a surge protector.
It's a good time to check your air conditioners.
The summer season is winding down, but that doesn’t mean the end of our hot weather. How have your air conditioning units been functioning? Could they be more effective? While you’re thinking about it, and before you take your next trip, have your chassis and roof air conditioners inspected. If they’re not working well, fix the problems now, or it may be time to consider more energy efficient units. If you plan to do any winter camping, think about adding an AC/Heater combination (AC/Heat Pump).

- Ultra-low rooftop aerodynamic profile
- Increased cooling performance
- Increased air flow
- Lower power draws
- Lighter weight models
- Smaller
- High performance motor and fan

Air conditioner inspection includes:
- Inspect for Freon leaks.
- Inspect AC roof shroud (cover on coach AC unit) for cracks or other damage.
- Clean condenser and filters.
- Test operation of the units.

RV camping tip
Omelets in a bag. What could be easier for breakfast AND make everyone happy? They can be made in your RV kitchen or over a campfire. You just need a pot of boiling water, gallon-size zip-lock bags, eggs, a variety of “stuffings” and you have a quick fun breakfast.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. For each omelet, put two eggs, one TBSP water, and whatever other ingredients you want, in a gallon zip-lock bag. Mix it all together in the bag, press the air out, and seal it. Then place it in the boiling water and cook for 13 minutes. Several can be made at the same time; just add one minute for each additional omelet. They always come out perfect: fluffy, and delicious.
